OCTOBER 3, 2021 WORKSHOP: EXPANDING OUR REACH
During this workshop. we heard from two speakers from our parish community as we explored how we can effectively expand an awareness of and participation in our ministries. Learn more about the two sessions below.
SESSION ONE: TELLING YOUR STORY
Improving how we communicate and increase awareness in our ministries within our community and to potential volunteers.
PRESENTED BY: NIKKI PULFER, graphic designer, marketer and Chair of the Ladies Candlelight Dinner
In 2008, parishioner Nikki Pulfer joined St. Maria Goretti with her husband Chuck and two children. At that time, Nikki had not yet been confirmed into the Catholic faith and had limited first-hand experience in a Catholic parish. Her journey of learning and understanding our faith and our parish, leadership of the Altar Rosary Society's Ladies Candlelight Dinner, combined with her deep experience of communication and design, give her a unique perspective about how we as a parish and in our ministries can more effectively communicate with ALL people, regardless of their background or knowledge of our work. Below you can find Nikki's presentation which she gave at our 2020 Leadership Workshop, as well as a copy of her presentation.
SESSION TWO: THE VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
Creating an inviting environment for our volunteers as we seek to match individual talents with the mission of our work.
PRESENTED BY: JULIE SAVITSKY, Founder and Executive Director of Reins of Grace Therapeutic Riding Center
In 2007, long-time parishioner Julie Savitsky founded Reins of Grace, a not-for-profit ministry that serves children with special needs using the three dimensional movement of horses.. As a Therapy Riding Center, Reins of Grace uses horses as a form of therapy and are COMPLETELY dependent on volunteers. In fact, for every rider, three people must be present to assist. Similar to the work of our parish and our many ministries, volunteers are essential in their ability to carry out their mission. Volunteers of many ages assist - as families or individually - in numerous crucial activities, including performing such activities as aiding the children as they ride the horses, brushing or cleaning the horses, cleaning up manure, or performing any number of other activities.
At the 2020 Leadership Workshop, Julie presented specific principles about how Reins of Grace has so effectively relied upon volunteers in this fast-growing ministry. Below you can find a short video to learn more about Reins of Grace, as well as workshop Julie's presentation which outlines these core principles.
