Nurse News
Hearing Screens: State mandated hearing screens for all K, 1st, 4th, 7th and transfer students have been done by the Westfield speech/hearing team on Wednesday, August 21. Testing will continue the next 3 weeks for all students absent or needing repeat testing. Parents will only be contacted IF there are questionable results and/or further evaluation is needed.
Kindergarten Parents: Please complete and turn in the yellow vision form sent in your welcome packet. The yellow vision form must be completed by your child’s eye care professional. A complete modified clinical technique (MCT) exam is a State of Indiana requirement. Pediatricians are not able to perform this type of exam. An exam by an ophthalmologist or optometrist is required. The exam may be obtained at your private eye care specialist or at the optical departments in stores such as Walmart or Target. Please call the nurse office for any questions or if financial assistance is needed.
Vision screens: On Thursday, Sept. 12, the Lions club volunteers will give vision screens to our 1,3,5,8th grade and transfer students. Any student not passing is then checked by Dr. Katherine Schuetz from Little Eyes optometry. This is a great opportunity to “catch” vision impairments and direct students to receive glasses or eye exercises as needed. If your student is NOT in these grades squinting, having trouble reading or any other eye issue we can test them on Sept. 12. Please notify the nurse office and we will add them to our list. Parents will only be contacted IF there are questionable results and/or further evaluation is needed.
