One of the most enriching experiences one can choose to be a part of at SMG is coaching and shaping its youth as a result. No experience is required to volunteer aside from a passion to enlighten our youth to the joys of Christ and how we can find His presence in athletics. As a coach, you will not only influence the lives of young athletes but also strengthen your own connection with the SMG community and your faith.
The coach ensures each practice and action is grounded in faith. At SMG, the Sports Ministry is committed to supporting each coach in their endeavor to mold their team in the image of Christ. In our effort to uphold this ideal we provide each coach with several tools to be successful including a “Playbook” that includes short team devotionals to be used at practices. SMG’s Sports Ministry has a mission to prioritize the growth of the whole person, nurturing spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical dimensions of each child.
By coaching at SMG, you are committed to fostering environments that create well-rounded individuals who are prepared to positively influence the world. Each practice and game is a chance to help them grow as players but, more importantly, as individuals deeply rooted in Jesus and the faith. As coaches, we are called to get each one of our players on the pathway to heaven. This is the ultimate victory for all of us and the SMG Sports Ministry, with the help of you, promotes this. Coaches are encouraged to build and create spiritual traditions into their approach to coaching at SMG, like team Mass or Adoration, pre-practice and pre-game/prayer as well as post-game/practice prayer.
