+  Pax et Bonum!    Peace and goodness to you this day!

One of the things that has always struck me about our readings today, is how quickly we can get from the Triumphant entry into Jerusalem, that we read about in the church narthex, before we came into Mass today, and the bitter, ugly, cruel rejection of Jesus that we just read together in the Passion, just now!  How fickle we can be as human beings!  Popularity and the love and admiration of this world are fleeting.  They don’t last.  If we’re looking to the world, for love, for value, for self-worth, to feel good, enjoy it while it lasts, because it doesn’t last very long.  The crowds will turn on us, just as quickly and as assuredly as they did on Jesus, two-thousand years ago!

What does last?  Where can we find our peace, our hope, and real love?  We find it in the cross!  The cross is the ONLY place we find our salvation!  When difficulties emerge in all of our lives, and they will emerge!  We need to only look towards the nearest crucifix, and see where our help is.  For in that one glance we realize that we are never alone in any of our adversity.  The crucified Jesus is always there, ever present to us, proving every day His undying love for us.  There is nothing fickle or part-time about Jesus’ love.  He will always be there, while the world will not!

This is one of the greatest messages that the church has today for the world!  Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life for all!  Most especially this week, it is time for all of us to take seriously our commitment to follow Him!  If each one of us really lived out our faith with joy, and live our lives pleasing to the Lord, the world that we live in today, that fickle, messed up world that has lost its values and its way, would know that the cross is the only way to go.  And if all of us really lived that way, much of the world’s pain and suffering could be healed forever.

We trust that.  We pray to live that way.  May the cross be the center and the focus of our lives, this week, and always!  We seek the kind of glory and fame that lasts forever.  May we always find it in Jesus and His cross!

May God bless us this Holy Week!   Father, Son, and Holy Spirit…                                       AMEN !!!

St. Maria Goretti…              Pray for us !!!
