+ Pax et Bonum!  Peace and goodness to you this day!

There are times, that we can be, the most prepared people in the entre world, when it comes to things that are important to us.  We do look ahead.  When it comes to our finances, when it comes to our vacations and free time, and when it comes to things that are a big deal to us, we’re on it.  We’re prepared.  We’ve got it planned out.  This is kinda a fun time to talk about this, because with the holidays coming up, and Thanksgiving just a week and half away, many people are already prepared for the holidays.  I know several people who have already started cooking for their Thanksgiving feast.  I know one person who was bragging to me just the other day that she already had her Christmas shopping all done.  Many people already have their vacations for 2016 all planned out and organized.  Weddings, and First Communions, and Confirmations, and Family Reunions are already on our calendars.  I spoke with a young lady last month who is planning a wedding for 2017.  I was, like, Wow!   That’s planning ahead!  God only knows where any of us will be in 2017.  But still we plan.  We prepare.  What’s that saying about making God laugh?  Tell Him your plans, and make God laugh!

In our Gospel today, we are reminded about something that we don’t like to think about much.  Jesus is talking to us about the end of the world.  We are at the end of our cycle of readings for this liturgical year, and we finish up with what’s coming next.  And that of course, is that one day Jesus is coming back.  We might go home to God before that happens, but we know from Jesus’ own promises, that one day, all of this will end for all of us.  Jesus is reminding all of us, to pay attention to the signs.  We do know how to be prepared.  We do know how to get ready.  We do it all the time with the weather.  And for all those who are prepared for His second coming, it will be a day of great rejoicing and gladness!  There is nothing what-so-ever to be afraid of, when these things happen.  As God’s people, as Church, we are not only awaiting and preparing for that day, we are even looking forward to it.  However, for those who are not really following Christ, for those who are not obeying the Commandments, for those who are selfish, and proud, and ignoring God’s wisdom, that is NOT going to be a very good day.  If that’s your situation, you can either be very sad on that day that Jesus returns, or, …or, you can start right now turning your life around, back towards Christ, to be ready for that day.

My brothers and sisters, in so many ways I think we pay lip service to Jesus’ return.  Oh, we know it’s there in the Bible, several times by the way.   We know we hear about the end times every November when we come to the end of our liturgical year.   We know in our heads, that this world does NOT last forever.  But knowing that in our heads does NOT translate into our changing our behavior and changing the way that we are living our lives!  And because of it, there are people who are going to Hell every day.  Many are not prepared to meet our Maker.   Many are not living their lives for Christ and for others, and they can’t be, because they are too busy living their lives for themselves!  You see, we’ve got a problem.  Everybody wants to go to Heaven.  But not so many people want to start living for Heaven right now, while we are still on this earth.   If we’re not preparing for it now, if we’re not getting ready for the Kingdom while we live in this world, is it really important to us at all?

The Prophet Daniel’s words to us in our First Reading today have to inspire all of us.  “Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake; some shall live forever, others shall be an everlasting horror and disgrace.  But the Wise shall shine brightly like the splendor of the firmament, and those who lead the many to justice shall be like stars forever.”   We can be like the stars!  Not the phony Hollywood kind, but like the stars that burn forever in the Heavens.  How’s that for inspiration!

Guys, this is our time.  Let us truly live for Christ now.  We don’t know about tomorrow.  But today, we are called by Christ to be His Church, and to be READY!  Let us heed the warnings, and let us be awaiting our Master’s return every day!

+ May God bless us today,  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit…                        AMEN !!!

St. Maria Goretti…                  Pray for us !!!
