+  Pax et Bonum!    Peace and goodness to you this day!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like, if your favorite sports team, or the cast from your favorite TV show, or your favorite music group, if they called you up on the phone one day, out of the blue, and invited you to become part of the group, or the team, or the cast?  It would be wild, wouldn’t?  Can you imagine, if the Colts called you up, and said, “Hey, we need you on our team!”  Now, at this point, it hurts my back and knees to think about it, but about 25 years ago, it would have been pretty cool!  Maybe today I could be their chaplain.  Maybe you heard this past week, that they are thinking about reuniting the cast from the TV show, “Friends”, for a special new show.  What if Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer call you up on the phone and asked you to be a new “friend” on the new “Friends” show?  How cool would that be!  It would be like instant success.  You would have been chosen for a special role.  I gotta tell ya, that my most secret fantasy is to get a phone call in the middle of the night, because it would be morning in Dublin, Ireland, from the rock band U2!  U2 is awesome.  Did you know, that U2 has been making music for over forty years now.  I have followed U2 from their very beginning.  And while I prefer their older music, it is amazing that they are still around, and still making rock music with a conscience all these years later.  I have this dream, that U2 calls me, in the middle of the night, and asks me to be in the band!  Could you imagine what that would be like?  Forget the fact that I can’t sing, or play guitar, or play the drums.  Who knows?  Maybe they would like a kazoo player in the band, for their next album.  I don’t know.  That’s why it’s a fantasy.  It’s not going to happen.

Let me talk to you a little bit about what is happening on this Feast of the Holy Trinity this weekend.  And this is as real as it gets.  Our God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, are inviting us into their triune relationship.  This is not the Colts, or the cast of “Friends”, or the rock band, U2, this is God.  And this is for real!  The Solemnity of the Holy Trinity reminds all of us that the Holy Trinity is for us.  God has revealed Himself, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, just so that we can get to know and understand Him better, And, but wait, but wait, there’s more… And so that we can get involved in the unity and love that God shares in the Three persons, One God, and share in a relationship that is going to be our salvation.  God really does want us with Him forever.  This God really does love us!  This is no fantasy or dream or even a far-off hope.  This is what God promises His people in the revelation of the Holy Trinity.  The love and the unity of the Holy Trinity is salvific, or saving, for us!   If ever we were going to want to be asked, or invited, or called to be a part of any group, let me assure you, when it is all said and done, and our time in this world is over, the invitation that we are all going to be most grateful for, is the one given to us by God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.   We are being asked to be on God’s team!  We are being called to be in His band.  God does want us to be one of His “Friends”.   The only real question now, is how are we going to respond to the invitation that is the Holy Trinity?

If this is for real, than we have to come up with a “real” answer.   And if we’re going to say “yes”, then we need to mean “Yes!”.   Living in unity with God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, means we’ve got to live differently.  We can’t be like everybody else.  We’ve got to obey those Commandments!  We’ve really got to love and take care of each other.  We’ve got to put God and others, in front of ourselves.  Those aren’t the easiest things to accomplish in this world!  But if we’re united with God, if we’re on God’s team, it’s a whole lot easier.  And that’s the real point.  If we’re united with God, and the more we are, the more strength, and help, and support, we are going to have.

This Feast isn’t just about One God and Three Persons in Heaven.  We’re all wrapped up in this Feast too.  Just make sure that you’re saying “yes”, to all that God has in store for you.  You will never regret it!  And He will be part of your life forever!

+  May God bless us all this Feast Day,  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit…             AMEN !!!

St. Maria Goretti…         Pray for us !!!
