On February 11, 1858, Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous multiple times.
"I raised my head and looked towards the grotto. I saw a Lady dressed in white, wearing a white dress, a blue girdle and a yellow rose on each foot, the same color as the chain of her Rosary." ~Bernadette
Throughout these apparitions, she asked Bernadette to dig in the mud which revealed a fresh spring of water which Bernadette was instructed to drink. Our Lady asked for chapel to be built on the sight and for the young girl to pray for the conversion of sinners. Eventually in her last apparition on March 25, she told Bernadette she was the Lady of the Immaculate Conception. (A title that had only been made Church dogma a few years earlier in 1854.)
