  • Music Ministry

Music Ministers are ministers of the Gospel who use music to bring the Scriptures alive in the hearts of the congregation. Their job is to lead and support the congregation in singing and worshiping. They are here to ignite a fire and fan the flame in the hearts of everyone here at St. Maria Goretti.

Has God blessed you with musical talent? Consider His parable of the talents and use your musical gifts for the glory of God and the building of His people. As our parish has grown, our need for music ministers has grown. The music ministry would love to welcome you! Singers, and those who play guitar, piano, cello, flute, violin, oboe, trumpet, and percussion – all instruments – are welcome. The parish needs your musical gifts so that all of us can praise God as He deserves.

Our variety of groups allows for a wide range in skill levels. Choir members should be able to match pitches. The cantors should possess singing talent and an aptitude for correct pronunciation and diction. Instrumentalists should possess a basic level of proficiency for his/her chosen instrument. Each music group has its own unique style that it uses to express the wealth of Catholic musical tradition. We would love to have you join the group that most fits your worship style.

  • Music Groups

Saturday 4:30 pm:  This group consists of piano and adult male and female singers. Instruments are also welcome. Music chosen has an emphasis on traditional songs. This group leads music at Mass weekly and rehearses before Mass at 3:30 pm.

Sunday 8:00 am:  This Mass is led by a cantor and a pianist.

Sunday 10:00 am 1st & 3rd Week:  This group consists of piano, guitar, melody instruments and adult male and female singers. A variety of styles, including chant, traditional hymns and contemporary songs is chosen. The group leads music at Mass twice a month and rehearses every other Thursday at 7 pm.

Sunday 10:00 am 2nd & 4th Week:  This group consists of piano, guitar, melody instruments, percussion and adult male and female singers. Music chosen has an emphasis in contemporary songs.  The group leads music at Mass twice a month and rehearses every other Monday at 7:30 pm.

Sunday 5:30 pm:  The Sunday evening Mass in oriented toward youth. This music ensemble consists of piano, guitar, percussion, and high school age singers with adult leadership. Music chosen has a heavy emphasis in contemporary style songs. The group leads music at Mass weekly and rehearses 4-5:30 pm before Mass.

Children’s Choir:  Our Children’s Choir is open to all parish children in grades 2-8 (regardless of place of schooling). They sing at a different mass each month. They also sing for Christmas Eve and First Communion Masses.

  • Occasional Opportunities

Weddings:  The music, singers and instrumentalists are chosen according to the wishes of the couple.

Funerals:  Pianist and/or guitarist will accompany a vocalist according to the wishes of the bereaved. Music ministers will usually be given two days notice before a funeral.

Stations of the Cross:  During Lent, cantor(s) lead the assembly in simple music at each station.

Feasts and Solemnities:  These are divided evenly among the groups. Individuals who cannot commit on a regular basis sometimes join the choir only for these special occasions. Instrumentalists are particularly important in adding to the festivity of these celebrations.
